Details of the Internship and Living in the U.S.A. Program
Purpose
The purpose of the MSC L.T. Jordan Institute's Internship and
Living in the U.S.A. Program (ILUSAP) is to provide an opportunity
for Texas A&M University International students to actively participate
in American culture by living and working for six weeks in the USA.
Program Description
The MSC L.T. Jordan Institute's Internship and Living in the
U.S.A. Programs (ILUSAP) shall arrange for the following:
- Six-week compensated professional training program
at Chevron Corporation in Houston, Texas or San Ramon,
California related to students' educational studies or
academic goals. Students must make separate arrangements
with their Texas A&M University (TAMU) academic department
for class credit.
- Mandatory cultural orientation to customs, society, and
government of the host city during the spring semester of
each year, prior to participants' departure.
- Frequent contact with a TAMU staff member.
- Educational group activities in designated city.
- Transportation to and from the host city.
- After the end of this summer program, participants
will be encouraged to present their cultural and
professional training experiences and perceptions to
their classmates and other TAMU students during the fall
semester at faculty-led lectures or on-campus seminars.
The program will begin in mid May and last through late June or
early July each year. The program duration will provide students with
ample time to return to TAMU for second summer session classes.
Students may choose to extend their experience to 14 weeks or longer
in order to recieve study abroad or course credit; however, students must
make all arrangments for this independently of the Jordan Institute.
Funding and Costs
The Chevron Corporation in Houston, Texas, and proceeds of the Leland T.
and Jessie W. Jordan Endowment for the MSC L.T. Jordan Institute for
International Awareness partially funds the program. This funding
does not cover the total cost of the round-trip airfare, housing, or
meals. Students will be responsible for paying approximately
$#,### for the Summer of 2006.
Incidental expenses not covered by the fee may include,
but are not limited to:
- all personal needs;
- any required travel documents and/or preventative medical care needed prior to departure;
- photographic equipment, film, and processing;
- other food and snacks as desired;
- personal shopping and gifts presented to the host families;
- and pleasure travel not scheduled in the group trip.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled international Texas A&M University
(at College Station) undergraduate and graduate students with
a GPR of at least a 2.25 for undergraduate and professional
students, 3.0 for graduate students. Students graduating
prior to program's departure are ineligible to participate.
- Valid and current passport and visa is required of all students prior to
departure.
- Students must have demonstrated ability to function effectively
in a cross-cultural environment and to uphold the image of Texas
A&M University as a world-class university.
- Upon selection as a participant, student must complete a contract
and release form which includes all rules, regulations and requirements.
- Preference will be given to applicants with majors in the Mays
Business School and Dwight Look College of Engineering.

Application and Selection Process
- Interested students submit applications and recommendation
forms.
- Applications will be screened by the Jordan Institute
Internship and Living in the U.S.A. Program Selection Committee
to narrow the candidates for the interview process.
Applicants will be interviewed by the following officials:
- Jordan Institute staff director or designee
- Jordan Institute student chairperson or designee
- The director of the Internship and Living in the U.S.A. Program (student)
- Chevron staff
- Other individuals as deemed appropriate by the student committee
- Applicants shall be notified of the interview outcome by mail, as
well as by telephone, within five working days after the final interview.
